Jameson Caskmates IPA Edition

If you have not done so already, go back and read our notes on the Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition for a quick run-down of the Jameson/Franciscan Well partnership that has birthed the Caskmates line. If you are up to speed, then let us proceed with an entirely different kind of critter: the IPA Edition. To start, the nose on this edition is a bit of a stunner—it packs some bright and zesty evergreen notes that dominate for a while before some of the smoother citrus and caramel tones show themselves. You might wonder at first if what you are about to drink is actually just an IPA boiler maker, but most of those aromas are not delivered quite as strongly on the palate. In fact, the hops are just about the only thing that still stands out on the first sip, although they do give way to more of the citrus and caramel/honey notes on the way to a fairly soft finish. In truth, this is a somewhat confusing whiskey, but in the sense that it brings some surprising new flavors into the mix while still feeling balanced and refined. If IPAs are your go-to beers, or if you are on the hunt for something truly unique, the Jameson IPA Edition is a natural next purchase.
