Aberlour 12 Year Double Cask Matured

No Scotch has taken off at Montana Spirits and Wine quite like the Aberlour 12 Double Cask Matured, and for good reason. The Aberlour 12 hits the great intersection of quality and affordability that can be hard to find in single malt Scotches. The “double cask matured” refers to its two-stage maturation process that starts with traditional oak and finishes in former sherry casks. The sherry finish imparts a rich but not heavy sweetness with nits of raisins, plums, and cherries that wraps up with a slight bitter-char finish which prevents it from lingering past its welcome. The smoke is definitely still present, but it plays second-chair to the assembly of other flavors as it develops from nose to finish.
